Gov. Abiodun Elevates Career Prospects for Graduate Primary School Teachers, Strengthening Education Sector

In a landmark move to empower educators and boost the quality of Primary Education, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has approved the career advancement of Graduate Primary School Teachers (Tutor Cadre) from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17.
The decision is designed to address career stagnation, enhance motivation, and ensure that Teachers in the State’s Primary Schools continue to climb the professional ladder.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, who explained that the promotion aims to revitalize the teaching profession and incentivize excellence within the education sector.
“The advancement seeks to address career stagnation at the peak of the Tutor Cadre and strengthen motivation among teachers in our primary schools,” Onasanya said.
In addition, Governor Abiodun has approved a consolidated salary structure for Head-Teacher General, effectively upgrading their status and recognizing their pivotal role in the administration of primary education across the State.
Onasanya stressed that these measures reflect the Government’s commitment to supporting its workforce and reinforcing the education system.
The Head of Service further explained that the policy decision follows a review of existing career progression frameworks and is intended to improve learning outcomes while fostering professionalism among teachers.
He added that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has been directed to implement the policy immediately, ensuring swift benefits for teachers and school administrators alike.
According to Onasanya, the initiative aligns with the ISEYA pillar of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, reaffirming Ogun State’s position as an education hub in Nigeria.
He also urged the teaching workforce to remain committed to efficient service delivery, emphasizing that the Government remains focused on progressive policies that advance educational development.
