Gov. Abiodun Commissions Imeko-Afon Township Road, Orders Swift Reconstruction of Olorunda–Imeko Route

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday January 28 commissioned the Imeko-Afon Township Road and directed the immediate reconstruction of the Olorunda–Imeko Road, highlighting his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the State.

The Imeko-Afon Township Road, first constructed in 1959 by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was officially inaugurated during a ceremony in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area.

The project is part of the Government’s broader drive to enhance transportation networks and stimulate local economic growth.

Governor Abiodun explained that his decision to reconstruct the Olorunda–Imeko Road came after personally traveling the route earlier in the day, describing its condition as deplorable.

He immediately instructed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to prepare a cost estimate for the project and ensure it is advertised for bidding by qualified contractors.

“I told the commissioner that the project must be presented at the next Executive Council meeting and that construction should commence immediately,” Abiodun stated.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the Governor noted that over 1,600 kilometres of roads have been constructed across Ogun State in the past six and a half years.

He also cited the Government’s facilitation of the 100-kilometre Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Obelle Road, built using reinforced concrete for durability.

Abiodun stressed that his government would continue to respond to criticism with tangible results, assuring residents of Yewaland that the region would receive its fair share of development.

He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing Badagry–Sokoto Highway project passing through Imeko-Afon, which he said would ease the transportation of agricultural produce and boost trade.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, explained that the Imeko-Afon Township Road would improve trade links between Imeko-Afon and Abeokuta North Local Government Areas while addressing persistent flooding issues in the community.

Traditional leaders praised the State Government’s renewed focus on Ogun West. The Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, urged the Governor to sustain the momentum, while the Obaladi of Afon, Oba Babatunde Rasheed, commended the administration for rehabilitating a road long neglected by previous Governments.

Local Government Chairman, Hon. Theophilus Oloyede, described the project as a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to economic growth, noting that improved road access would boost agricultural activities.

Likewise, State Lawmaker Hon. Jemili Akingbade said the project was a major boost for commerce and farming, while Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the upgraded road would foster prosperity for the people and the State.
