Ghana Mourns as Former First Lady Nana Agyeman-Rawlings Passes On at 76

Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady and wife of the late President Jerry John Rawlings. She reportedly died at the age of 76 after a brief illness.

Agyeman-Rawlings, a prominent figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape, was renowned for her advocacy for women’s rights and empowerment.

As founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she championed education, healthcare, and economic inclusion for women across the Country.

Her passing marks the end of an era for one of Ghana’s most influential political families. Tributes have poured in from political leaders, women’s groups, and citizens who described her as a “pillar of strength” and a “trailblazer in the fight for gender equality.”

Until her death, Nana Agyeman-Rawlings remained active in politics and civil society, leaving behind a legacy of courage, leadership, and National service.
