Key Figure in Taraba Student’s Death Found Lifeless

The mystery surrounding the death of a Taraba State University student has taken a shocking turn after the prime suspect in the case was discovered dead in Tudiri community, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
His sudden passing, confirmed on Friday, has deepened the tragedy and raised fresh questions about justice and accountability.
The case first drew public outrage after Comfort Jimtop, a 100-level Mass Communication student, was found dead in her boyfriend’s house in Jalingo.
Comfort, a native of Takum Local Government Area, was discovered lifeless beside empty bottles of hard drinks, sparking immediate suspicion of foul play and drawing widespread calls for answers.
Investigators soon recovered a mobile phone at the scene. When officers powered the device, they reportedly found photographs linking Comfort to the man later identified as the prime suspect.
That discovery placed him at the center of the probe, with investigators expecting his testimony and possible prosecution to shed light on what truly happened to the young student.
Before the investigation could progress, however, the suspect was found dead.
According to the Taraba State Police Command, his body was recovered after the Tudiri village head reported the discovery.
The remains have since been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo for autopsy, while efforts are being made to formally identify him through his family.
The circumstances of his death remain unclear, fueling speculation over whether it was suicide, homicide, or an accident.
His demise has complicated an already delicate case and stirred suspicion of possible cover-ups.
The back-to-back deaths have left the Taraba community stunned.
Students, residents, and rights groups are demanding transparency, while Comfort’s grieving family insists that justice must not be derailed by the latest setback.
Police authorities have pledged to continue the investigation.
A senior officer said the suspect’s death “will not derail the pursuit of truth,” assuring that detectives will follow every lead until both cases are resolved.
For now, the twin tragedies of Comfort Jimtop and the man once accused in her death remain unsolved mysteries, casting a shadow of grief and suspicion over Taraba State.
