Flames Of Death: Petrol Tanker Explosion Kills Two In Kwara

A devastating petrol tanker accident claimed the lives of two individuals on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Pasa Village along the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State.

The victims, identified as the driver and his motor boy, were operating a petrol tanker with registration number NSR 966 ZQ.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker lost control around 3:43 pm, veered off the road, and overturned, triggering a massive fire that engulfed the vehicle.

The Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly, dispatching a team of firefighters to the scene to extinguish the blaze and prevent further destruction.

The director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially when handling hazardous materials like fuel,” he said.

The accident has once again raised concerns about the safety of Nigerian roads, particularly with regards to fuel tankers.

In recent years, several accidents involving fuel tankers have resulted in loss of lives and property.

The Kwara State Fire Service has advised all road users, particularly tanker drivers, to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents.

The service also urged drivers to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and avoid fatigue, which can lead to loss of control.

As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, the community is left to mourn the loss of two lives and ponder the importance of road safety.
