In a significant development, the Federal Government has officially upgraded the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), in Ogun State. This move marks a major milestone in the Institution’s history and is expected to enhance access to Technical Education in the Region.

According to sources, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the bill into law, bringing to fruition the long-standing aspirations of the Institution’s stakeholders. The upgrade is a testament to the Government’s commitment to promoting Technological advancement and Education in the Country.

The Institution, established 46 years ago, has been transformed into a full-fledged University, focusing on Technological Innovation and Development. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the region, particularly in Ogun West, which is known for its Industrial base.

Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, championed the upgrade bill, which was first introduced in 2016. Despite previous setbacks, the bill was finally passed and signed into law under President Tinubu’s Administration.

Reacting to the development, Senator Adeola expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for signing the bill, stating it was a long-overdue dream come true for the people of Ogun West. The Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Mulero, also commended President Tinubu for his visionary leadership in tertiary education reform.

This upgrade is one of the 22 Federal Universities approved by President Tinubu in his two-year Administration, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to promoting Education and Technological Development in the Country.
