FG, ASUU Clash Over Ongoing Strike

ASUU Strike

The Federal Government (FG) has warned the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that it may enforce the no-work-no-pay policy if the Union fails to suspend its ongoing two-week warning strike.

In a statement released late Sunday by Folasade Boriowo, spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, the Government accused ASUU of failing to cooperate despite repeated efforts to avert the strike.

The Minister said the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, remains committed to improving the welfare of lecturers and ensuring the stability of the academic calendar.

“The Ministers further stressed that the Government has continued to prioritise the welfare of University staff and the stability of the academic calendar under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement read in part.

The Government reiterated that dialogue remains the best way to resolve industrial disputes and appealed to ASUU to return to negotiations to prevent further disruption in the education sector.

ASUU had on Sunday declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across Public Universities, citing the Government’s failure to honor previous agreements and address outstanding issues affecting its members.
