Fear, Relief as Bomb Squad Clears Maiduguri Scene After Security Scare

Tension gripped parts of Maiduguri as residents watched in fear while security operatives sealed off an area following a suspected threat, before relief set in after bomb disposal experts cleared the scene.
For many locals, the sight of armed officers and restricted movement brought back unsettling memories of past attacks in the region. Shop owners hurriedly closed their businesses, while passersby kept a safe distance, unsure of what might unfold.
“It was scary. Nobody knew what was happening at first. We just saw পুলিশ blocking everywhere,” a resident told Global Mirror News, describing the initial panic that spread through the neighborhood.
Police authorities, however, moved quickly to contain the situation. The Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, confirmed that the area was immediately secured to prevent any danger to the public.
“The scenes were immediately secured, cordoned off, and subjected to thorough sweep operations by Police Explosive Ordnance (EOD) Unit Base 13 Maiduguri to rule out the presence of any additional threats,” he said.
Global Mirror News gathered that the careful operation by the EOD team helped reassure anxious residents, many of whom stood at a distance waiting for confirmation that it was safe to return.
Parents were seen clutching their children, while traders expressed concern over lost business hours, highlighting the everyday impact such incidents have on ordinary citizens.
After hours of checks, the atmosphere gradually eased as security officials signaled that the situation was under control. Movement resumed slowly, though a visible security presence remained in place.
Experts say beyond the immediate response, incidents like this underline the emotional toll of insecurity on communities, where even a suspected threat can disrupt daily life and trigger widespread anxiety.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, as investigations into the incident continue.
