Fear Grips Edo Community as Gunmen Abduct Two Brothers in Auchi
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two brothers in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, an incident that has intensified public anxiety over rising insecurity in the Area, Global Mirror News reports.
The victims, identified as Ibrahim Abu and Tahir Abu, were reportedly abducted on January 2, 2026, throwing the Iyetse Clan in the Utsogun Heritage Zone of Auchi into panic.
Ibrahim, a Medical Doctor currently undergoing his housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi, was said to have been abducted alongside his brother while attempting to gain access to his residence after returning from work.
According to a family source who spoke to Global Mirror News, the abduction occurred directly in front of Ibrahim’s residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, as he was opening his gate.
Describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, the source appealed to Security Agencies and the Edo State Government to intensify efforts to secure the brothers’ safe and unconditional release.
“This is deeply disturbing. A young Doctor whose only mission is to save lives has now become a victim of insecurity,” the source told Global Mirror News.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem, said the command had activated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in collaboration with other security stakeholders.
“Yes, the incident was reported to the Edo State Police Command on January 2, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m.,” she said.
She explained that following a distress call on the kidnapping of two brothers, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde and Abu Tahir, along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, the Divisional Police Officer of Auchi Division was immediately deployed to the scene.
“Operatives were mobilised alongside vigilantes, forest guards and community safety partnership volunteers who are familiar with the terrain. Aggressive search-and-rescue operations in the surrounding forest areas have been ongoing since the incident,” Ikoedem added.
The Police spokesperson assured residents and the victims’ family that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted brothers, noting that further updates would be communicated as developments unfold.
