Family Slams False Death Rumours About Pete Edochie

The family of Veteran Nollywood Actor, Chief Pete Edochie, has firmly dismissed widespread rumours circulating on social media alleging that the respected film icon has passed away.
Global Mirror News gathered that speculation, which began trending online on Tuesday, February 10, triggered panic and an outpouring of concern among fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry before it was debunked by the actor’s family.
Reacting to the development in a video posted on Instagram, the Actor’s eldest son, Leo Edochie, described the claim as entirely false and malicious.
“I’ve been receiving text messages and calls over the nonsense post by some people that our father, Chief Pete Edochie, is dead. It is a lie from the pit of hell,” Leo said.
He further reassured the public that the Nollywood legend is alive and in good health, condemning those responsible for spreading the rumour.
“Our father is alive, hale and hearty. And if you wish someone dead, two things usually happen. The person will live very long and you will die before him. Shame to all of you,” he added.
Global Mirror News reports that the rumour had gained traction across several social media platforms, with unverified posts claiming the 78-year-old actor had died. However, no credible source or official statement supported the claim prior to the family’s clarification.
Pete Edochie, renowned for his deep baritone voice and commanding screen presence, is regarded as one of Nollywood’s most influential figures. His career spans decades, with iconic roles in films and television dramas that have shaped Nigeria’s film industry.
The latest incident highlights the growing concern over the spread of misinformation online, particularly involving prominent public figures.
As of the time of filing this report, the veteran actor had not made a personal statement, but his family maintains that he remains in good health.
