Family Demands Justice After Mother of Three Dies Amid Alleged Domestic Abuse

The family of a Delta State woman, Etunim Henrieta Ebere Sunday, has demanded justice after accusing her husband of subjecting her to years of abuse that allegedly led to her death.
Global Mirror News gathered that the late Etunim, a mother of three from Idumu-Oza Community in Agbor Kingdom, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, died on March 24, 2026, after battling health complications said to have resulted from repeated assaults.
According to the family patriarch, Mr. Friday Eboma, the deceased had allegedly endured years of violence in her marriage to Mr. Ebere Sunday, an indigene of Alisimie, Agbor.
Speaking on the development, Eboma alleged that his daughter’s husband wanted to end the marriage so he could marry another woman he claimed was expecting his child.
“Our daughter suffered in silence for years. We only discovered the extent of what she had been passing through after her death,” he said.
Global Mirror News learned that the most recent alleged incident occurred on January 23, 2026. Family members claimed that following an argument, the woman was locked inside the house and assaulted.
Her children reportedly raised the alarm after the incident, leading to her being rushed to General Hospital, Agbor, where she received treatment.
The family said Etunim never fully recovered and had remained in poor health until she died two months later.
Eboma said members of the accused man’s family had approached them in an attempt to settle the matter, but the family rejected the move, insisting that those responsible must explain the circumstances surrounding her death.
“We are not interested in quiet settlement. We want the truth and we want justice for our daughter,” he said.
The deceased’s younger sister, Blessing, also recounted receiving a distress call from Etunim shortly before the alleged incident.
According to her, she travelled from Lagos to Agbor after learning about her sister’s condition, only to discover that she had been living in fear because of repeated abuse.
Global Mirror News further gathered that neighbours and relatives in the area had allegedly been aware of frequent disagreements in the marriage, while the couple’s children reportedly confirmed that their mother was often assaulted both at home and at her shop on Imudia Street, Agbor.
The grieving family has now called on the Delta State Police Command and other relevant authorities to launch a full investigation into the case and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get a response from Mr. Ebere Sunday were unsuccessful.
