Ekiti Amotekun Arrests 20-Year-Old Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Hearing-Impaired Minor

The Ekiti State Security Network Agency, codenamed the Amotekun Corps, has arrested a 20-year-old man, Dare Omoyajowo, over the alleged sexual assault of a hearing- and speech-impaired teenage girl in Are-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Global Mirror News gathered that the suspect was taken into custody on Friday following a report lodged by the victim’s family.

The Head of the Communications Department of the Amotekun Corps, Adeleye Adewale, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.

According to Adewale, the incident occurred in Are-Ekiti, where the suspect allegedly lured the teenage girl into his apartment using gestures and non-verbal communication, exploiting her disability.

The girl’s mother reportedly raised the alarm after noticing signs of abuse and receiving the account of the incident through sign language from her daughter.

Amotekun operatives in the Ifedara Local Council Development Area acted swiftly on the complaint and apprehended the suspect.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the offence in his residence, the spokesperson said.

Following the arrest, the Amotekun Corps transferred Omoyajowo to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

Global Mirror News reports that the arrest comes amid heightened concern over sexual violence against minors in the State.

Earlier in the month, the Ekiti Amotekun Corps arrested a 28-year-old man, Olapade Ifeoluwa, in Ilawe-Ekiti over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl.

The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Ekiti Southwest Local Government Command after the child’s cries reportedly attracted public attention and led to her rescue.

The suspect was said to have confessed during questioning.

In another development earlier in December, Amotekun operatives also arrested five suspects in connection with various criminal offences across the state, including kidnapping, attempted abduction and fraud.

The Ekiti Amotekun Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable residents and working closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure that suspects are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
