DSS Arrests Doctor Supplying Drugs to Kidnappers in Kwara

In a major security operation, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a Medical Doctor allegedly supplying drugs to armed kidnapping gangs in Kwara State. The arrest, which took place in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, is part of intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks fueling violent crimes in the North-Central region.

The Kwara State Government, in a statement shared on its official social media platforms, confirmed the arrest. According to the statement, the suspect allegedly transported pharmaceutical supplies from Sokoto State to criminal elements in Kwara, aiding them in treating gunshot wounds and other injuries sustained during clashes with security operatives.

Security sources revealed that the operation is part of a broader crackdown by the DSS on the logistics networks sustaining kidnappers in the region. Kwara State, traditionally considered relatively peaceful, has recently recorded a surge in insecurity, particularly in border and forest-adjacent communities such as Kaiama, Baruten, Ekiti, and Moro Local Government Areas. These areas have reportedly become hideouts and operational bases for armed gangs, heightening concerns among residents and local authorities.

The DSS emphasized that the arrest sends a strong warning to all individuals who may be facilitating criminal activities, directly or indirectly. “Our commitment to dismantling criminal networks remains unwavering. Anyone found aiding kidnappers or other violent groups will be held accountable under the law,” a DSS spokesperson stated.

This development also highlights a troubling trend: criminals seeking medical interventions to prolong their operations. Authorities are now urging medical professionals and community members to report any suspicious movement of pharmaceuticals or critical supplies to prevent further collaboration with criminal elements.
