DNA Speaks Where Words Couldn’t: Father Arrested in Disabled Daughter’s Abuse Case
Global Mirror News gathered that a 50-year-old man has been arrested in South Mumbai after DNA evidence conclusively identified him as the biological father of the unborn child carried by his 20-year-old daughter, who is hearing and speech impaired.
The disturbing case came to light in September 2025 when the young woman complained of severe abdominal discomfort to her grandmother.
According to Police accounts, she relied on hand gestures to describe unusual sensations in her stomach, prompting her family to seek urgent medical attention.
She was admitted to Cama & Albless Hospital, where Doctors discovered she was approximately five months pregnant and immediately alerted the authorities.
Investigators from the Cuffe Parade Police division encountered major challenges at the outset, as the survivor could neither communicate verbally nor easily give a formal statement.
Her father, questioned during the early phase of the investigation, dismissed any suggestion of abuse and declined to file a complaint, offering no explanation for the pregnancy.
Global Mirror News reports that a breakthrough emerged through the intervention of counsellors from the Non-Governmental Organisation Vidhayak Bharti.
Over several days, Counsellors Lila Patade and Madhura Kodlekar employed therapy-based techniques, including drawings and finger-doll communication, to help the survivor recount her experience.
This painstaking process enabled her to formally lodge a complaint and identify individuals linked to the abuse.
Acting on her account, Police initially arrested a 34-year-old married man and took a 17-year-old boy into custody.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on September 22, 2025, under strict provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including offences relating to sexual assault against a person incapable of giving consent, alongside relevant sections of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.
The alleged offences were said to have occurred between March 21 and September 21, 2025.
To establish paternity, investigators ordered comprehensive DNA testing. Blood samples were collected from 17 individuals, including the woman’s father, and analysed alongside a foetal sample.
The forensic report, received on January 27, 2026, delivered a shocking conclusion: only one DNA profile matched — that of the survivor’s father.
Following the forensic findings, Police summoned the 50-year-old for further questioning, confirmed his involvement, and placed him under arrest.
A Senior Police Official told Global Mirror News that the offence is classified as heinous and carries a possible sentence exceeding ten years’ imprisonment, making immediate arrest necessary to prevent any attempt to evade justice.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, while arrangements have been made to ensure continued medical, psychological, and legal support for the survivor as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
