DIGITAL ECONOMY DRIVE: OGSG EMPHASISES CYBER AWARENESS, CREATIVITY

A four-day training programme has been organised by the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT) to commemorate Ogun State’s 50th Anniversary, with the theme “Building Digital Confidence: Creativity and Cyber Awareness.”

The ongoing training, held at the Ogun TechHub, is aimed at exposing citizens to the importance of digital creativity and cyber security as a means of boosting confidence in businesses and innovation.

The Special Adviser on Information Communication Technology (ICT), Mr. Dayo Abiodun, explained that cyber awareness and creativity are crucial to unlocking the state’s digital potential. He highlighted the rising incidence of cyberattacks and stressed the need to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the digital space safely.

“Creativity and cyber awareness are the bedrock of a thriving digital economy. We must educate our people to attract more investments, create opportunities for citizens, ensure business safety online, and make them ambassadors of cyber awareness,” Abiodun said.

He recalled that the establishment of the Ogun TechHub has led to several initiatives aimed at promoting digital literacy and cyber awareness, including coding camps, hackathons, and other skills acquisition programmes. According to him, these initiatives have helped build a strong ecosystem that supports techpreneurship, positioning many young people in the state to create jobs rather than seek employment.

Also speaking, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at BIT, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, urged participants to think outside the box and leverage digital tools to solve real-world problems. She noted that the programme would educate participants on digital security, online safety, and creativity, thereby enhancing business sustainability.

Participants, including Tope Adeniyi and Busola Ogunsolu, commended BIT for organising the training, describing it as timely and impactful. They said the programme had given them renewed hope of accessing essential digital entrepreneurship tools for job creation, business growth, and networking opportunities while navigating the digital world.
