Delta Poly Engineering Class Rep Arrested Over Textbook Scam

Global Mirror News has gathered that Okafor Chinedu, an Engineering Student and Class Rep (Representative) at Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara, was arrested following allegations of exploiting fellow students through the sale of a compulsory textbook at inflated prices.
The incident has triggered widespread debate over ethics and accountability in student leadership.
According to sources at the Polytechnic, Chinedu reportedly purchased a mandatory engineering textbook at approximately ₦3,500 and resold it to his classmates for ₦8,500, more than double the original price.
Global Mirror News confirmed that students became aware of the practice after several classmates refused to pay the inflated cost, leading to a confrontation.
Eyewitnesses told Global Mirror News that tensions escalated when Chinedu allegedly used some of the proceeds from the book sales to upgrade his mobile phone to a new high-end model shortly after assuming his leadership role.
This sudden lifestyle change raised suspicions among students that the class representative had abused his position for personal gain.
Frustrated students reportedly detained Chinedu during a heated exchange and handed him over to campus security before local law enforcement took custody.
While formal charges have not been publicly disclosed, Global Mirror News learned that the matter is under investigation by both campus authorities and the Delta State Police Command.
The case has sparked a broader discussion on campus, with many students taking to social media to express outrage over perceived exploitation.
Commentators emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership among student representatives, highlighting that leadership positions in Tertiary Institutions carry responsibilities that extend beyond mere titles.
Global Mirror News further gathered that Delta State Polytechnic Management is closely monitoring developments to ensure order is maintained and to prevent further unrest on campus.
Meanwhile, authorities are expected to announce the outcome of their investigation in the coming days.
This incident reflects ongoing tensions at Nigerian Tertiary Institutions over student welfare, fees, and ethical governance, underscoring the importance of responsible leadership among youth representatives.
