Court Remands Woman Over Brutal Attack on AEDC Staff

A Senior Magistrate Court in Nasarawa State has ordered the remand of a woman accused of mobilising her son and his friends to assault a staff member of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), leaving him unconscious during an official duty.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred on February 10, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. at the Karshi Service Centre under the Masaka Business Office in Nasarawa State.

The victim, Mr. Abdul Ishaka, a Customer Representative Officer (CRO) with AEDC, was said to have been carrying out a lawful enforcement assignment when he was allegedly attacked.

According to a statement issued by the Electricity Distribution Company on Thursday, the suspect, identified as Mrs. Laraba Waziri, reportedly mobilised her son and his associates after Ishaka questioned her over the alleged illegal reconnection of electricity supply to her premises.

The company explained that the customer had allegedly reconnected her service wire after being disconnected for non-payment (DNP). AEDC records indicate that the account in question has an outstanding debt of ₦272,499.47.

Global Mirror News further learned that the assault was described as severe, with the staff member beaten to a state of unconsciousness.

He was initially rushed to Emmanuel Baptist Clinic for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center, Keffi, where he remains hospitalised.

The company stated that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police intervened in the matter, directing the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police to ensure a speedy investigation.

The primary suspect was subsequently arraigned before the Senior Magistrate Court in Auta Balefi and has been remanded in police custody pending the arrest of other suspects who are currently at large.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety and security of electricity utility workers while performing enforcement and revenue recovery duties across the Country.
