Court Orders 60-Day Remand for Nurse Over Corps Member’s Death

A Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of a 37-year-old Nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, over her alleged involvement in the tragic death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

Global Mirror News gathered that the defendant was remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre for an initial period of 60 days, pending legal advice from the Ogun State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Adesanya was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful procurement of abortion, and murder following the death of 23-year-old corps member, Victoria Ariyo.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences occurred between January and March 2026 at the Ikereku area in Laderin, Abeokuta.

The nurse was accused of supplying drugs intended to terminate Ariyo’s pregnancy, which reportedly resulted in fatal complications.

Further details revealed that the deceased was allegedly involved in a relationship that led to the pregnancy, with an NYSC official, Abass Olalekan, also implicated in the case.

He had earlier been arraigned on related charges, including conspiracy and attempted abortion, and was granted bail.

During proceedings, the Police prosecutor, Solomon Babalola, urged the court to grant a remand order to allow for further investigation and legal review.

The Presiding Magistrate, O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the request and adjourned the case until May 26, 2026, for further mention.

The case has sparked renewed concerns over illegal medical practices and the risks associated with unsafe abortion procedures, particularly among young women.

Global Mirror News reports that investigations are ongoing, while authorities continue efforts to ensure justice is served.
