Chinese Firm to Build Power Plant, Industrial Park in Ogun

A leading Chinese power company, CCETC, has announced plans to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun State, in what is expected to be a major boost to the State’s industrial and economic landscape.
The company’s Chairman, Mr. Guo Xianda, made the disclosure during a meeting with Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, over the weekend.
He revealed that the firm would install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, free of charge, to enhance economic activities within the airport corridor.
The move follows Governor Abiodun’s recent investment mission to China, where he led a delegation to engage global investors in technology, energy, and manufacturing.
Xianda explained that CCETC, based in Jiangsu, China, already has over 250MW power projects operating in Nigeria and intends to expand its 5,000MW generation capacity across Africa.
He said the company’s interests in Ogun State include power generation and distribution, investment in a State transmission network, and the establishment of an industrial park to attract more Chinese manufacturers to the State.
“Ogun State’s strategic position as Nigeria’s industrial hub makes it the ideal location for CCETC’s next phase of investment in Africa,” Xianda said.
Responding, Governor Abiodun commended the group for its confidence in the state, describing the partnership as a significant step toward realizing his administration’s industrialization agenda.
“The company will strategically focus on strengthening power generation and distribution within the state, investing in our transmission network, and developing an industrial park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers while integrating power solutions,” Abiodun stated.
According to source close to the discussions, the investment could be worth over $50 million, covering power infrastructure, industrial facilities, and logistics operations.
The 3MW pilot plant at the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport will serve as a model for a broader embedded power initiative that CCETC plans to expand across the State.
The Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, which is nearing completion, is expected to become a major logistics and export hub for agricultural and industrial goods, making the new power project vital to its operations.
The initiative also aligns with the Federal Government’s policy empowering sub-nationals to generate and manage electricity independently, following recent constitutional reforms in the power sector.
Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, described the deal as “a milestone that will create hundreds of jobs, attract fresh foreign investment, and strengthen Ogun’s status as the industrial heartbeat of Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the Governor is scheduled to lead the CCETC team on an inspection tour of ongoing power distribution projects by Sahara Group and Powergen, as part of efforts to ensure a sustainable and reliable energy supply across Ogun State.
“This collaboration marks another milestone in our journey to make Ogun the industrial capital of Nigeria,” Abiodun added. “Reliable power is the foundation for industrial development, and we are determined to deliver it.”
