Chained Nigerian Pastor Freed in Benin Republic

Global Mirror News gathered that a Nigerian Pastor who was allegedly chained to a hospital bed in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, has been released following widespread public outrage, diplomatic engagement, and intervention by human rights advocates.

The cleric, whose name has not been officially disclosed, was reportedly admitted to the hospital for medical attention before being restrained under circumstances that sparked condemnation across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

Images and videos of the Pastor chained to the hospital bed circulated widely on social media, drawing sharp reactions from religious leaders, civil society groups, and concerned citizens.

According to information gathered by Global Mirror News, the incident prompted swift intervention from Nigerian community leaders in Benin Republic, alongside officials of the Nigerian Consulate in Cotonou, who engaged hospital management and relevant authorities.

Sources disclosed that following meetings involving hospital officials, security agencies, and diplomatic representatives, the Pastor was unchained and moved to a safe location where he is now receiving appropriate care.

Beninese authorities have reportedly commenced an internal review to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish whether hospital procedures and human rights standards were violated.

The development has renewed calls for stronger protection of patients’ rights and improved oversight of medical facilities, particularly in the handling of foreign Nationals.

Rights groups have stressed that the use of chains on patients undermines human dignity and violates international best practices in healthcare.
