BUK Expels 57, Suspends 8 for Exam Fraud

Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has expelled 57 students and suspended eight others after they were found guilty of examination malpractice.

The disciplinary measures were confirmed during the institution’s 427th Senate meeting, in line with its General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR).

The University’s Director of Examinations, Admissions and Records, Dr. Aminu Wada Kurawa, explained that the decision underscores BUK’s zero tolerance for academic misconduct.

“This move is to protect the integrity of the institution and ensure fairness in our academic processes,” he said.

The affected students cut across several faculties, including:
Faculty of Education
Faculty of Engineering
Faculty of Allied Health Sciences
Faculty of Social and Management Sciences
Faculty of Environmental Sciences
Postgraduate School

Eight of the students were rusticated — suspended for one or two semesters depending on the severity of their offences — while 57 were expelled outright.

In a twist, two students — Sani Sani Aliyu and Saratu Bala Hussain — were cleared after investigations found them not guilty of the allegations.

Meanwhile, the case of Yusuf Muhammad Sani from the Faculty of Engineering has been deferred, pending further investigation by the Student Behaviour Committee.

The full list of sanctioned students was released by the University Management to ensure transparency.

Authorities also urged the student body to carefully study examination rules and conduct guidelines, stressing that ignorance will not be accepted as an excuse.

BUK reiterated that while it supports students in their pursuit of knowledge, it will not compromise on academic standards or integrity.
