BUK Expels 171 Students Over Fake Admission Credentials, Cracks Down on Academic Fraud

In a sweeping move to uphold academic standards, Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 171 students for presenting falsified admission credentials, Global Mirror News reports.

The mass expulsion was ratified during the University Senate’s 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, following deliberations on findings submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

According to an official statement published in the Institution’s weekly bulletin on Friday, the affected students were discovered to have submitted forged or manipulated documents during their admission processes.

“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the statement noted.

University authorities emphasized that the offence breaches Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which stipulates expulsion as the penalty for such misconduct.

The disciplinary action cuts across multiple faculties and academic levels, underscoring what the University described as a firm commitment to sanitising its academic records and preserving institutional integrity.

In a separate but related decision, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, over his alleged involvement in the assault of invigilators during an examination.

The University stated that the incident disrupted examination proceedings and constituted a serious violation of its code of conduct, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline and malpractice.

Global Mirror News understands that the latest expulsions form part of broader efforts by Nigerian Universities to tighten admission verification processes amid rising concerns over credential fraud.
