Boy, 12, Dies After Alleged Bullying at School, Family Demands Justice

The family of 12-year-old Ufokobong Edwin Godwin has narrated how they believe the boy was allegedly bullied by a senior student before his death.
Global Mirror News gathered that Ufokobong, a Junior Secondary School student at Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene, was allegedly attacked in the school hostel by a student in Senior Secondary School 3 shortly before students left for the Easter holiday.
According to the family, the senior student allegedly struck the boy during an encounter in the hostel. Relatives said the incident happened after the senior student reportedly confronted the younger pupil and physically assaulted him.
The family claimed that after the beating, Ufokobong returned home complaining of pain and discomfort. They said his condition worsened in the days that followed, with the 12-year-old becoming seriously ill before he eventually died on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Relatives insist that the alleged assault in the hostel directly led to his death.
The boy’s mother, who appeared in a video shared by Oga Yenne TV, accused the senior student of repeatedly intimidating and bullying her son before the incident.
In the video, she alleged that the older student had been tormenting the child in the boarding house and eventually hit him shortly before the school closed for the Easter break.
“You killed this child. You will not go scot-free. We will fight you to the end,” the grieving mother said while crying beside her son’s body.
The family further accused the school management of failing to curb bullying and violence among students in the hostel.
Some parents of students at Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene have previously complained about senior students allegedly brutalising junior students, stealing their belongings and intimidating them in the boarding house.
One parent previously recounted that a senior student allegedly hit his child in the chest, after which the boy began vomiting blood, while others described repeated cases of younger students being physically abused by older students in the school.
The death of Ufokobong has since triggered outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a full investigation into what happened inside the hostel and calling for tougher action against bullying in boarding schools.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the management of Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene nor the Akwa Ibom State Police Command had released an official statement on the matter.
