Boko Haram Attack Claims Pastor, Four Others in Borno Community

Global Mirror News has gathered that suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed a Senior Pastor of the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) and four other residents during a deadly attack on Tarfa community in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents reportedly struck the community at about 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 22, arriving on motorcycles and firing sporadically as they advanced.
Residents were forced to flee as houses, shops, and other property were set ablaze, leaving the village largely deserted.
A resident, who survived the attack and spoke on condition of anonymity, told Global Mirror News that the assailants operated for nearly two hours without resistance.
“They came in large numbers on motorcycles and moved freely. There was no presence of the military or other security agencies during the attack,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State, Most Reverend John Bakeni, disclosed in a telephone interview from Maiduguri that no fewer than five people were killed.
Among the victims was Pastor Musa Umaru of the EYN Church, who had reportedly lived and ministered in Tarfa community for over a decade.
“It is true that there was an attack on Tarfa village yesterday evening,” Bakeni said. “I was informed that five residents were killed, including our pastor who had served the community faithfully for many years.”
Eyewitnesses further confirmed that the attackers razed the entire village, burning vehicles, homes, shops, and a church, forcing many residents to flee to neighbouring communities for safety.
Describing the incident as devastating, another source appealed to security agencies to intensify protection for vulnerable communities around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest. “We are under serious threat.
Five people were killed, including Pastor Evangelist Musa Umoru. Many of us have fled Tarfa for fear of further attacks,” the source lamented.
Residents also called on both the Federal and Borno State governments to urgently intervene to safeguard lives and property in the affected Local Government Areas, warning that continued insecurity could worsen the humanitarian situation in the region.
