Bayelsa Deputy Governor Collapses in Office, Rushed to FMC Yenagoa for Emergency Treatment
Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was on Thursday rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, after collapsing suddenly in his office at the Government House.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early afternoon, causing panic among aides, security personnel, and staff within the administrative wing. According to sources at the Government House, the Deputy Governor had been attending to official matters when he slumped without warning.
Security operatives and his personal medical team immediately moved him into a waiting vehicle and sped to FMC Yenagoa, where he was received by emergency doctors. Hospital personnel were said to have taken him into the emergency unit for urgent evaluation before transferring him for further monitoring.
Although the exact cause of the collapse has not yet been disclosed by the Government, medical staff described the situation as “a serious health episode” requiring immediate attention. There is no official confirmation yet on the nature of his condition, but sources within the hospital said he was stabilised after initial treatment.
As news of the incident spread, top Government Officials and political associates began arriving at the hospital. Tight security was mounted around the facility, restricting movement as medical personnel continued attending to the Deputy Governor.
Efforts to get a detailed statement from his spokesperson were unsuccessful, as officials said updates would be provided only after Doctors completed their assessments.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, a former Federal Lawmaker and seasoned public Administrators, has been a key figure in the Bayelsa State Government since the current administration came into office.
