Bandits Ambush Police Patrol in Oyo, Inspector Killed in Line of Duty

Global Mirror News gathered that an Inspector of the Nigeria Police Force has been killed following an armed ambush on a Police Patrol Team in Oyo State, heightening concerns over insecurity in border communities.
The attack occurred on Saturday January 25, at the Budo Masalasi border post area, where suspected bandits reportedly laid an ambush for Officers who were on routine patrol.
The sudden assault sparked panic in the community as residents and security operatives grappled with the growing threat posed by armed groups in the area.
According to preliminary accounts, the assailants opened fire on the patrol team, leading to a gun battle. During the exchange, the inspector sustained critical injuries and later died.
Other officers were also wounded and rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, although their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
The identity of the fallen officer was withheld as of press time, pending formal notification of his family by police authorities.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command had launched a manhunt for the attackers.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation aimed at apprehending those responsible.
“There was an attack on Police operatives during which an inspector, while bravely repelling the assault, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” Ayanlade said.
He added that preliminary investigations suggest some of the attackers sustained gunshot injuries and are being tracked by security operatives.
The Police spokesperson assured residents that reinforced security measures have been deployed across the state to forestall further attacks and protect lives and property.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements or individuals seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice,” Ayanlade stated.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected area have voiced concern over the rising wave of insecurity, calling on the Government to strengthen security presence along border communities and major routes to prevent future attacks.
