Awujale Selection: Abiodun Dismisses Clash Rumours, Says No Threats to Afobajes

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes over the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
Global Mirror News gathered that the Governor’s recent engagement with the Afobajes was strictly consultative and conducted in a calm, respectful atmosphere, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.
Sources close to the meeting said the interaction was consistent with Governor Abiodun’s earlier interventions in traditional affairs, including past engagements with the Olori Ebis, which helped resolve internal disagreements and foster unity among kingmakers.
It was further learnt that such dialogue previously led to the withdrawal of a court case instituted by one of the kingmakers, underscoring the Governor’s preference for consensus and peaceful resolution of disputes rather than confrontation.
Contrary to reports suggesting threats or ultimatums, Global Mirror News gathered that Governor Abiodun neither attempted to impose conditions nor interfered with the autonomy of the Afobajes. Statements attributed to him, including the widely circulated phrase “No Kuye, No Awujale,” were described by official sources as outright fabrications with no basis in fact.
“No Afobaje can attest to such statements because they were never made,” a Government source told Global Mirror News, adding that the reports were the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to inflame tensions around the sensitive traditional process.
The Governor, sources said, remains committed to due process, respect for traditional institutions, and a fair, transparent process in the emergence of a new Awujale. His administration continues to emphasize dialogue, harmony, and the protection of Ijebu cultural heritage.
Members of the public and media practitioners have been urged to disregard unverified claims and rely on information from credible and official sources, as the Awujale selection process continues.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.
