Awujale: Ogun Government Places Peace, Transparency at Forefront

In a decisive move to maintain peace and stability in Ijebu land, the Ogun State Government has vowed to conduct the selection of the new Awujale through a process marked by transparency, due diligence, and inclusivity.

The commitment underscores the administration’s determination to safeguard one of the State’s most prestigious traditional institutions while ensuring the trust of the community and stakeholders.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, delivered the Government’s assurance during a closed-door meeting at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The gathering included officials from Ijebu Ode Local Government, members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, and representatives of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, highlighting a collaborative approach between government and traditional institutions.

Speaking at the session, Governor Abiodun stressed the cultural and historical significance of the Awujale throne, describing it as a position that demands meticulous attention and careful consideration.

“While the Awujale throne is currently vacant, the Government will not rush the appointment of a successor without thorough due diligence,” he stated, urging the public to exercise patience and await official directives before initiating any part of the selection process.

The meeting also reinforced the role of the Obas and Chiefs Laws of 2021, which clearly delineate the powers and responsibilities of all stakeholders, along with the Chieftaincy Declaration, which provides a legal framework to guide a smooth and credible selection process.

These mechanisms are designed to prevent disputes, uphold tradition, and guarantee that the selection process is fair, lawful, and widely accepted.

By emphasizing peace, transparency, and inclusivity, the Ogun State Government aims to instill public confidence, protect the integrity of the Awujale institution, and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to harmonious governance and the rule of law.
