“Avenge Your Death”: Plateau Mother’s Tearful Farewell to Son Killed in Jos Attack

A grieving mother in Plateau State has stirred emotions across the Country after an emotional moment during the burial of her son, Promise Ayuba, who was killed in the recent attack in Jos.

Global Mirror News gathered that Mrs Favour Ayuba, the mother of the deceased, broke down in tears as she addressed her late son during his burial on Thursday.

Promise was among those reportedly killed during the Palm Sunday attack carried out on March 29 in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Armed men invaded the community, killing at least 24 persons and leaving several others injured.

Mrs Ayuba had earlier appeared in another viral video in which she was seen clutching the lifeless body of her son shortly after he was reportedly hit by gunfire during the attack.

In the latest video, which surfaced on Friday, the bereaved mother was seen standing beside her son’s coffin while relatives and sympathisers gathered around.

Speaking in Hausa in an emotion-filled voice, Mrs Ayuba said she had not eaten since the day her son was killed.

“I have not eaten since Sunday,” she said repeatedly as she struggled to hold back tears.

Global Mirror News gathered that the grieving mother also revealed that the day of the burial was her son’s birthday, making the moment even more painful for the family.

“Today is your birthday. I thank God that today is your birthday. You do not like seeing me cry, and I will try to be strong,” she said.

During the burial, Mrs Ayuba reportedly brought out a cutlass wrapped in a white cloth, which she had concealed under her clothing, and placed it inside her son’s coffin.

While sobbing, she appealed emotionally for justice over the killing of her son and urged that those responsible should not go unpunished.

She also spoke about the close bond she shared with her son, recalling that she carried him for nine months and raised him.

“I carried you in my womb for nine months and breastfed you. You were my Promise,” she said.

Mrs Ayuba further referred to the biblical story of Gideon, explaining that she named her son Promise Gideon Ayuba because of her admiration for the Bible character known for courage and victory.

“I named you Promise Gideon Ayuba. Gideon in the Bible went to war and returned victorious,” she added.

Family members present at the burial were visibly emotional as the grieving mother struggled to come to terms with her loss.

The attack in Plateau State has continued to trigger outrage across the Country, with residents and civil society groups calling for stronger security measures and justice for the victims.

Global Mirror News reports that security agencies have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the attack as investigations continue.
