APC 2026 Convention Sets Benchmark for Organisation, Security – Gov. Abiodun

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has described the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a model of organisation and security, attributing the smooth conduct of the event to careful planning and strategic innovations introduced by the organising committee.
Abiodun, who served as Chairman of the Convention Venue Subcommittee, made the remarks while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja.
According to the Governor, the committee carried out a comprehensive review of previous party conventions to identify recurring challenges, particularly those related to crowd control, venue coordination and security management.
He explained that shortly after the inauguration of the subcommittee, members conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the convention arena, which led to a major redesign of the venue layout aimed at improving movement and safety for participants.
Abiodun revealed that simulations were conducted to test the flow of about 12,000 participants within the venue, ensuring that entry and exit points could effectively handle large crowds during the convention.
“We identified weak areas from past experiences and redesigned the arena to eliminate them. Our goal was to deliver a seamless and world-class convention that reflects the strength and organisation of our party,” he said.
To further strengthen coordination and safety, the Governor said specific entry points were allocated to different categories of attendees, while clearly marked emergency exit routes were also created across the venue.
He added that surveillance cameras were installed at strategic points within and around the arena to monitor activities and enhance security throughout the event.
Abiodun disclosed that the convention attracted about 11,000 participants, including 8,400 accredited delegates, 1,800 committee members and over 200 VIP guests.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the venue committee, noting that the successful convention reflects the administration’s commitment to its Renewed Hope Agenda.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the convention as unprecedented, highlighting the participation of delegates from all the 36 states of the federation and praising the planning team for delivering a well-organised national gathering.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, said the convention stood out as a hallmark event, attributing its success to effective leadership and meticulous coordination by the organising committee.
