Anthony Joshua Resumes Training After Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Two Close Friends
Former unified heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, has reportedly returned to training weeks after a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends, an incident that plunged the boxer and his camp into deep mourning.
Global Mirror News gathered that the accident, which occurred earlier this month, involved two long-time associates of Joshua, widely described by those close to him as “blossom friends” due to their shared history, personal growth, and close bond with the boxing star.
Following the incident, Joshua suspended all boxing-related activities and withdrew from public appearances to grieve and provide support to the affected families.
Sources within his camp disclosed that the decision to pause training was unanimous, with his management and technical team prioritizing his mental and emotional wellbeing.
According to information gathered by Global Mirror News, Joshua has now resumed light, controlled training under the supervision of his head trainer, Derrick James, and other members of his coaching crew.
The sessions are said to focus on conditioning, movement, and mental balance rather than intense sparring or fight-specific preparation.
A Senior member of Joshua’s team revealed that the former champion remains deeply affected by the loss but believes returning to the gym will help him cope with the trauma.
“Anthony is heartbroken. These were people very close to him. Training is not about boxing right now; it is about healing and structure,” the source said.
Joshua, who has held the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles, has yet to issue a detailed public statement but has privately expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, fellow boxers, and sports stakeholders across the world.
Global Mirror News further gathered that no fight date or negotiation is currently underway, as Joshua’s camp is focused on ensuring he is emotionally and physically ready before making any competitive commitments.
