Airport Arrest: Security Officers Caught with $6.1m Cash at MMA2

There was tension at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos on Saturday after a group of security operatives were intercepted while attempting to board a domestic flight with over $6.1 million in cash.
Sources at the airport told Global Mirror News that the suspects, whose identities and number remain undisclosed, were caught during a routine security inspection as they tried to board an Aero Contractors flight.
It was gathered that the operatives had already passed through the initial airport security screening, but were stopped at the foot of the aircraft after Aero security personnel flagged their unusually heavy boxes.
Upon inspection, several boxes loaded with undeclared U.S. dollars were uncovered, prompting immediate arrest by airport authorities.
A source familiar with the development said the officers were later handed over to relevant security agencies for questioning to determine the source, ownership, and purpose of the money.
Although officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and aviation security units have yet to comment, insiders confirmed that a high-level investigation is underway to unravel how the personnel were able to move such large sums through multiple checkpoints unnoticed.
The incident has sparked discussions among airport staff and travelers over possible breaches in aviation security protocols and the misuse of official privileges by certain operatives.
