Abiodun’s Govt Speeds Up Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, Expands Road Projects Across Ogun
— Contractors, Residents Laud Quality, Swift Progress
The Ogun State Government has intensified its road infrastructure push, with several key projects recording significant progress — notably the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, which is now over 50 percent completed, according to the contractor, Craneburg Construction Limited.
During an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, led by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, Craneburg Project Manager, Mr. Pierre Andary, said asphalt laying has commenced on several sections of the expressway and that work has continued steadily despite adverse weather conditions.
“We are committed to timely and durable delivery. Our teams are working around the clock to ensure the road is completed within record time,” Andary assured.
Engr. Akinsanya reaffirmed the Abiodun Administration’s commitment to providing quality and long-lasting infrastructure, noting that the Government has rehabilitated several previously impassable roads since assuming office in 2019.
“Before this administration came on board, the Sango–Ota area was totally impassable. It was like a swimming pool. We’ve worked hard to fix that. Road reconstruction takes time because we prioritize quality and durability,” he explained.
The Commissioner disclosed that the concrete pavement technology used along the Ewekoro axis was adopted to strengthen the road and minimize maintenance costs, considering the area’s high water table.
He also addressed concerns raised in a viral video that showed poor road conditions, clarifying that the footage was outdated and did not represent the current state of work. Akinsanya added that traffic congestion along the corridor has been reduced, with continuous efforts to ensure smooth movement.
“Work is ongoing and will continue until full completion,” he said, urging motorists to drive carefully, especially during the rainy season.
The inspection team also assessed progress on other major projects, including the 8.17km Magboro–Makogi Road, the 9.2km Oke-Aro–Agbado Road, Akute–Alagbole Road, and Papalanto Road, covering Abeokuta North, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro Local Government Areas.
Mr. Jason Zhang, Project Manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited, which is handling the Magboro–Makogi Road, confirmed steady progress, attributing it to the Government’s cooperation and residents’ support, which have helped maintain project timelines.
Residents such as Mr. Uche Okoro and Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi praised the State Government’s efforts, describing the road projects as transformational initiatives that will ease traffic, promote business activities, and stimulate economic growth across Ogun’s industrial communities.
Observers note that Governor Abiodun’s infrastructure agenda is transforming Ogun into a leading investment destination and strengthening its role as a major economic hub in Nigeria’s Southwest.
