Abiodun Elevates Tutor Cadre: Ogun Teachers Move Up Payroll Ladder

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved a major career progression initiative for Graduate Primary School Teachers, aiming to eliminate career stagnation and boost educational delivery across the State.

In an official statement signed by State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, the Governor authorized the advancement of Graduate Primary School Teachers (Tutor Cadre) from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17 on the State payroll, effective immediately.

The decision is intended to motivate teachers, improve service delivery, and address long-standing bottlenecks in career progression.

Mr. Onasanya noted that the policy follows a thorough review of the existing career advancement framework.

He emphasized that the promotion will enhance teacher morale, which is expected to positively impact learning outcomes in Ogun State’s Primary Schools.

In addition to the Grade-level advancement for Tutors, Governor Abiodun approved a revised salary structure for Head-Teacher General positions, upgrading their status within the Civil Service and ensuring their compensation aligns with supervisory responsibilities.

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has been directed to implement the new policy immediately. This includes updating payroll systems, ensuring that eligible staff receive the reclassification and salary adjustments, and supporting effective communication to all affected personnel.

Officials highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Abiodun administration’s governance focus on education reform, innovation, and youth development, reinforcing Ogun State’s position as a leader in basic education within southwestern Nigeria.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a long-awaited boost for teacher welfare and an incentive for the teaching profession.

Analysts note that improving teacher career pathways is critical for raising standards of learning and addressing systemic staffing challenges across Nigeria’s primary education sector.
