Abeokuta North Local Government has celebrated one of its exceptional workers, Evangelist Sunmola Adewale Samuel, from the Department of Information, Education and Sports, as he formally retired after years of memorable and meritorious service, with outstanding contributions to administrative development within the Department and across some Local Governments in Ogun State.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony held in his honour on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Local Government Christian Chapel, Council Secretariat, Akomoje, the Chairman of the day, Otunba Olukayode Ekundayo, a retired Head of Local Government Administration, showered encomiums on the outgoing Officer for his commitment to excellence, as well as his impact, contributions and selfless service to humanity.

He stated that Mr Sunmola distinguished himself through humility and consistent respect for colleagues, adding that his strong work ethic earned him recognition as one of the favourite staff members to work with.

In her remarks, Mrs Olasunkanmi Olalekan, Head, Information, Education and Sports Department, described Mr Sunmola as a disciplined and competent officer who was widely loved by other members of staff across all departments.

According to her, “He is leaving when the ovation is loudest and has been a reference point for emulation in the Local Government Service, as well as in the service of God within and outside the Local Government Service.”

She, however, expressed appreciation for his cooperation and respect throughout their working relationship, stating that he contributed significantly to the successes recorded so far in the Department of Information.

Earlier, Prophet Francis Ogunlana, in his short sermon titled “Ebenezer,” recalled that it had been the grace and mercy of God over the celebrant that ensured a safe landing, stating that many of his colleagues were not privileged to see their last day in office.

Meanwhile, the Chaplain of the Abeokuta North Local Government Christian Fellowship, Pastor Fagbire Oluwarotimi, in his welcome address, appreciated all invited guests, family members and staff present at the event for the honour bestowed on Mr Sunmola, while wishing them journey mercies back to their various destinations.

While expressing his appreciation, Mr Sunmola thanked God for preserving his life and also appreciated his senior brother, Mr Raymond Sunmola, for the courage and support given to him to fulfil his dreams. He further expressed gratitude to Otunba Olukayode Ekundayo (rtd. HOLGA), Mrs Olasunkanmi Olalekan, family members and the entire staff for the honour accorded him.

He stressed that, despite the short notice, he was amazed by the well-organised valedictory service put together in his honour, especially considering the present economic situation in the country. “I will forever be grateful,” the celebrant said.

Moreover, prayers for the celebrant were anchored by Rev. Adedayo Adebesin, respectively.

The ceremony was well attended by Directors, Assistant Directors, representatives of The Church of the Lord, family members and staff across all cadres.
