44 RETIRED HEADS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION HONOURED IN OGUN STATE

It was a day of speeches and celebration as 44 retired Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) were honored at an event organized by the Body of Serving HOLGAs in recognition of their invaluable contributions to grassroots governance in Ogun State.

In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, represented by Full-time Commissioner I, Hon. Femi Lukman Adiro, thanked God for the lives of the retirees and praised their dedication and expertise while in service. She encouraged them to enjoy retirement, eat healthy, avoid stress, and maintain open communication with the commission. She also appreciated the organizers for uplifting the morale of both retired and serving HOLGAs through the event.

Delivering her goodwill message, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, FNSE, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, commended the initiative and congratulated the retirees, encouraging them to go for regular medical checkups. She urged serving HOLGAs to emulate the good legacy of the retired ones.
In the same vein, Hon. Johnson Akohomoh Awoseh, Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State ALGON and Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, said the event served as a time of reflection on the contributions of the retired HOLGAs, noting that their efforts were acknowledged and appreciated.

Earlier, the President of the Body of HOLGAs, Mr. Babatunde Adeola Owolabi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the honourees. He emphasized that the event was a significant moment to honour those whose legacies remain a guiding light in the state’s Local Government service.
He highlighted the importance of the office of the HOLGA as the administrative “helmsperson” of the Local Government, stating that the 44 honourees represented values such as discipline, competence, and integrity. He described the recognition as a symbol of collective respect, appreciation, and gratitude. He encouraged serving officers to uphold ethical leadership, empathy, and excellence as enduring legacies for future generations.

Representing the retired HOLGAs, Prince Kola Akinyemi expressed appreciation to the current body of Serving HOLGAs for their consistent support, adding that good deeds will always be remembered and rewarded.

In his vote of thanks, Organizing Committee Chairman, Mr. Oluwole Fateru, expressed gratitude to God for the successful execution of the event. He acknowledged the support of the Commission Chairman, Ms. Onabanjo, and her team throughout the planning and implementation stages.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the 44 honoured retirees. The colourful ceremony was well-attended by dignitaries and notable personalities from across the state.
