30-Year-Old Arraigned for Alleged Murder of Mother

A 30-year-old man, Oforbuike Damian, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, over the alleged killing of his mother.
Global Mirror News gathered that the defendant was brought before the court on a one-count charge bordering on murder.
The Police Prosecutor, David Njoku, who is also a Senior State Counsel, told the court that the incident occurred on March 19, 2026, at Ohatekwe village in the Ukawu community, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to Njoku, the defendant allegedly caused the death of his mother, Mrs. Onyema Damian, by stabbing her in the back with a knife.
He noted that the offence is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Volume 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.
During the court proceedings, the defendant, who had no legal representation, reportedly admitted to the act, citing a disagreement with his mother as the trigger.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Chinedu Agama, ruled that the court lacks jurisdiction to try the case and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre.
The magistrate further directed that the case file and exhibits be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice and further action.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to April 9, 2026.
