11 Officers Killed in Benue Ambush

The corpses of eight missing security operatives/ Officers have been recovered in Benue State, raising the death toll from Friday’s ambush on a joint security team to 11 officers.

The attack occurred at Agu Centre, a border community between Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas, where personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), and the Nigerian Forestry Services were deployed.

Among the dead are ASP Dalami Usman (popularly called Danzuru), Inspector Solomon Ogede, Navas Kukaa of the BSCPG, and Mbakiir Torpine of the Forestry Services.

Confirming the recovery, DSP Udeme Edet, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, said Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari is personally coordinating operations in the Area.

Katsina-Ala LGA Chairman, Dr. Justine Shaku, described the attack as a monumental loss.

No group has claimed responsibility, but security sources told Global Mirror News the ambush was the handiwork of armed militias operating in the region.

The killings have heightened fears in affected communities, with residents urging the federal government to deploy more troops to prevent further bloodshed.
